Men's Maizy Cabled Sock

Maizy Men's Twisted Rib Cable Socks Designed and Knit by Debbie Haymark For Crystal Palace Yarns Materials 3 - 50 gr balls Maizy (82% corn fiber - 18% elastic nylon) [Note: There is a woman's version of this same pattern HERE that uses 2 balls] Crystal Palace DPN Needles #1.5 US [2.5 mm] set of 5 Maizy color used in sample socks: #1001 "night shades" Small cable needle or an extra DPN Stitch Marker or loop of contrasting yarn

Gauge: 8 sts per inch over St st Size: Men’s large size sock

Abbreviations: BOR: beginning of round; cont: continue; CO: cast on; K2 tog: knit 2 together; N1: Needle 1; N2: Needle 2; N3: Needle 3; N4: Needle 4; patt: pattern; PU: pick up; rem: remain(ing); rep: repeat; Sl1: slip 1; SSK: Slip, Slip, Knit; St st: stockinette stitch

Twisted Rib uses a 6 st Left Cable consisting of slipping 3 sts onto the cable needle (CN) and holding to the front. Knit the next 3 stitches; then knit the 3 stitches from the CN.

Twisted Rib Pattern: Rows 1 & 2 - P1, K6, P2, K6, P1, rep patt on each needle back to BOR marker. Row 3 - P1, LC, P2, K6, P1, rep patt on each needle back to BOR marker. Rows 4 thru 13 - P1, K6, P2, K6, P1, rep patt on each needle back to BOR marker. Row 14 - P1, K6, P2, LC, P1, rep patt on each needle back to BOR marker. Rows 15 thru 24 - P1, K6, P2, K6, P1, rep patt on each needle back to BOR marker. Row 25 - P1, LC, P2, K6, P1, rep patt on each needle back to BOR marker.

Completed patt Rows 1-25 is approximately 2 inches. Knit patt 3X for 6 inch cuff; knit patt 4X for 8 inch cuff; or knit patt 5X for a 10 inch cuff.

Begin Leg - CO 80 sts over 4 needles having 20 sts on each needle. Join in ring being careful not to twist. Mark join as beginning of round (BOR). K in patt for desired cuff length.

Begin Heel: Note: Heel is worked in rows on 40 sts.

Heel Pattern: Row 1 - Sl 1, K across Row 2 - Sl 1, P across Knit until you have 40 heel flap rows. Heel flap shape should be close to square. End with P row. Turn Heel as follows: Row 1: Sl 1, K21 sts, K2 tog, K1 turn Row 2: Sl 1, P5 sts, P2 tog, P1, turn Row 3: Sl 1, K6, K2 tog, K1, turn Row 4: Sl 1, P7, P2 tog, P1, turn Repeat rows 3 & 4, increasing 1 additional K or P st after the Sl 1 until all side sts are consumed. End with P row.

Gusset: K to center of heel. Using spare DP needle, K across rem heel sts. PU and K 20 sts from side of heel flap and K 1 st in gusset corner (N 1). K across N 2 & 3. With N 4, PU and K 1 st in the gusset corner and then PU and K 20 sts from side of heel flap. K rem heel sts. Stitch count is (33, 20, 20, 33) respectively.

Gusset Decrease: Rnd 1: N 1: K until the last 3 sts, K2 tog, K1. N 2 and 3: K around. N 4: K1, SSK, K around. Rnd 2: K around. Repeat these 2 rounds until total sts equal 80. Transfer sts as necessary so that you have returned to your original st placement: (20, 20, 20, 20).

Sock Foot: Cont knitting in St st until approx 1.5 to 2 inches from tip of the longest toe. Shape Toe: Rnd 1: N 1: K until last 3 sts, K2 tog, K1 N 2: K1, SSK, K around. N 3: K until last 3 sts, K2 tog, K1 N 4: K1, SSK, K around. Rnd 2: K around

Continue in this manner until approximately 36 sts rem or until sock has desired toe shape. Place 18 sts of the top of foot on one needle and place 18 sts of bottom of foot on another needle. Kitchener toe closed.
