Panda Cotton Laser Lights Socks

Laser Lightshow Socks knit with Panda Cotton

Designer Note: I named these Laser Lightshow socks since the main colors are those of an office printer: black, cyan, red, and yellow. I think the purple just got added for spice.

Don’t be surprised if your stripes look different from mine. The pooling of the black color depends on your gauge and the number of stitches used. Both socks were made on the same needles and with the same number of stitches.

Materials: • 2-50 gr balls Crystal Palace Panda Cotton (55% bamboo - 24% cotton - 21% elastic nylon) 170 yds/50 gr, #0439 “Night Lights” • Crystal Palace Bamboo DP (double-pointed needles) US #2 needles

Socks were made in Ladies size 7-1/2; larger sizes may require an additional ball

Gauge: 28 sts. = 4 in with #2 needles

Directions: Cuff: Cast on 64 stitches. Join without twisting, and work in rounds of K3, P1 ribbing until tube measures 6-1/2” from the cast on edge. Finish final round at the back centerline of the sock, below original join.

Heel Flap: Work in rows. K 16 stitches. Place next 32 stitches on a single DP needle, a stitch holder, or loop of yarn. Turn work. Row 1: Sl 1, K1, P 28, K2, turn. Row 2: *Sl 1, K1* across row, ending K2, turn. Repeat Rows 1 and 2, 11 + 1 times, ending with Row 1. (25 rows total)

Turn Heel: Work in Rows. Row 1: K16, Sl 1, K 1, PSSO, K1 turn Row 2: Sl 1, P1, P2tog, P1 turn. Row 3: Sl 1, K2, Sl 1, K 1, PSSO, K1 turn Row 4: Sl 1, P3, P2tog, P1 turn. Continue until all stitches in heel have been turned and 16 stitches remain.

Foot: Work in rounds. Set up round. Needle 1: K16, pick up 12 stitches along side of heel flap Needle 2: *K3, P1* across 32 stitches, matching leg pattern. Needle 3: Pick up 12 stitches along side of heel flap, K8 from needle 1.

Foot decreases: Round 1: Knit 1 round, moving last stitch on Needle 1 to Needle 2. (33 sts on needle 2) Round 2: Needle 1: K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. Needle 2: P1, *K3, P1* pattern Needle 3: K1, Sl 1, K 1, PSSO, K across. Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until 64 stitches remain.

Continue to knit foot, keeping needles 1 and 3 in knit stitch, and keeping needle 2 in the K3, P1 pattern until sock measures 7-1/2”, or 2” shorter than desired foot length.

Toe decreases: [Needle 2 sts edited 8/10/07] Round 1: Needle 1: K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. Needle 2: K1, Sl 1, K 1, PSSO, K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1 Needle 3: K1, Sl 1, K 1, PSSO, K across. Round 2: Knit 1 round. Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until 32 stitches remain.
